NANTONG, July 19 (ChinaMil) -- The day July 11 has been designated as the Maritime Day of China since 2005. To celebrate the 9th Maritime Day, the guided missile frigate "Liuzhou" of the South China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the teaching and practice ship "Yukun" of the Dalian Maritime University (DMU) were open to the public in Nantong of east China's Jiangsu province. Local residents boarded and visited the two ships, received education in patriotism and acquired navigation knowledge.
The "Liuzhou" warship is a new-type guided missile frigate commissioned in December 2012, and it has a full-load displacement of over 4,000t and a maximum speed of 27 knots. The "Yukun" ship, built by the DMU, is China's first independently-developed teaching and practice ship installed with imported key equipment and it is now one of the most advanced ships dedicated to ocean-going teaching and practice in the world.
