Warm law enforcement has special significance

Experts from Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences said the local government has demonstrated the respect toward personal property by not taking forcible measures, guaranteeing the normal life of “relocatees,” and looking for balance between the appeals of both sides while taking into account both public and private interests.

“The Wenling government’s unusual treatment of the ‘nail household’ has great significance,” said Zhong Qi, a research fellow at the Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences. Due to the acceleration of urbanization, lots of contradictions may emerge, so Party committees and governments at all levels should seek balance among competing interests, and conduct scientific planning at a deeper level in order to reduce demolition disputes, particularly violent disputes.

Xia Jiapin, a lawyer at Zhejiang Brightness Law Firm, said that tolerance of the ‘nail household’ in Wenling is a concrete manifestation of social progress, and the local government’s considerate law enforcement signifies progress in the rule of law in China. The symbolic significance of this incident should not be underestimated.
