The military-flag-granting ceremony was held on November 27, 2012 at the Special Operation College (SOC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Guangzhou of south China's Guangdong province.
Setting up the SOC is a major decision made by the Central Military Commission (CMC) in light of the new situation to strengthen the capability building of the PLA special reconnaissance combat units. The SOC was set up by amalgamating the previous Major of Reconnaissance and Special Operation Command of the PLA International Studies University and the PLA Military Sports Comprehensive Training Base.
Since starting the preparation of its establishment in August of 2011, the SOC has gradually established its characteristic school-running pattern with the special operation and special reconnaissance as its main driving force, the military body-building and special skills as its basic support and the military command and confidential archives as its two wings.
Lt. Gen. Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA, attended the ceremony and granted the SOC a military flag. Relevant leaders from the leading organs of the four general headquarters/departments of the PLA also attended the ceremony.
