Preventing abuse of power in physical exam for civil service candidates (3)

(People's Daily Online)

16:08, November 29, 2012

In 2011 alone, Song Jiangming, a civil service candidate in Changzhi, Shanxi province, was wrongly diagnosed with anemia, and another candidate Chen Bin was disqualified because the specified hospital found that he had an overly small number of white blood cells.

Several candidates in Guizhou province were disqualified because they failed the physical examination at a specified hospital, but a new physical examination at another hospital showed that they were very healthy. They hoped the specified hospital and local bureau of human resources and social security could correct the mistake, but were told that they just had “bad luck.”

On the one hand, the physical examination has become a rent-seeking tool. On the other hand, from zodiac signs and blood types to the symmetry of breasts, various absurd and even discriminative requirements have been imposed on physical examination takers, making the physical examination of civil service candidates even harsher than gynecological examinations. Inappropriate physical examination requirements have again manifested the abuse of power.
