Pushy parents turn matchmaking events into ‘marriage fairs’ (4)

As more and more unmarried youngsters in Shanghai are too busy to look for their other half, their parents have to take the job to help them find the future spouse. Nowadays, more Chinese parents show up in this kind of events on behalf of their unmarried children, which has become a typical phenomenon across the country.

According to statistics, information of women accounted for 63.04 percent; local people accounted for 89.13 percent; white-collar workers accounted for 39.1 percent.

An old lady surnamed Su unintentionally says that her son has a girl friend right now. Su seems not satisfied with her future daughter-in-law so she comes to the blind date corner, looking for a perfect match for her son. Su defends herself, “Because I know the marriage ‘market’ at present. Marriage is like shopping. My son’s social contacts are very limited. So I come to the market to choose the candidates for him. ”
