Known for long as a "strategic passage of Qinlong, a strategic gateway to Binning," Yongping town served as the official seat of Yongshou county for nearly 700 years, starting from the 2nd year of the Wude period of the Tang Dynasty (619 AD) to Song-Yuan-Ming-Qing Dynasty and the republic years. People in Yongshou now refer to Yongping town as the "Old County." In Yongping town, there are such sites of cultural significance as the Wuling Temple Pagoda, a cultural relic protected at the national level; Jinshi Jinpan City; the Ancient County Government Office; Cuiping Academy of Classic Learning; Wulong Spring; and a hundred-hectare plot of sophora trees. Yongping town is an ideal place for Yongshou county to develop tourism industry.
