BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Paying high attention to the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the international media said Thursday that the event is of great significance and will have a far-reaching influence on the world.
Upon the opening of the congress, the world's major news agencies, including Reuters, Agence France-Presse, and The Associated Press, released a series of reports on the event, especially on Chinese leader Hu Jintao's keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
CNN started a special TV program, "the Future of China," and made a spot connection with its correspondent in Beijing on the congress and Hu's speech.
On its Chinese language website, The Wall Street Journal opened a special coverage on the event and listed "the 18th National Congress of the CPC" as one of the most searched topics.
BBC conducted a live broadcast on the opening ceremony and a simultaneous interpretation on Hu's speech in English. Another British TV channel, BSkyB, posted a headline news on the congress on its website and continuously upgraded it.
When covering the ceremony, France's BFM-TV showed a subtitle on the main points of Hu's speech at the bottom of the screen.
Le Monde and Le Figaro, two leading daily newspapers in France, also posted reports on the homepages of their websites.
