BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rain will sweep parts of north and southwest China from Wednesday to Friday, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast Wednesday.

The rain will hit parts of Xinjiang, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan and Yunnan, with some of these areas expected to see cumulative precipitation of 120 mm to 160 mm, according to an NMC forecast.

Strong convective weather featuring lightening and strong winds is also expected to hit some of these areas, the forecast said.

In light of the frequency of strong convective weather in summer, the NMC has reminded people to stay alert against its adverse effects and take necessary precautions.
