Simply cannot wait another day to collect a parcel but you were not available to pick it up when the courier called you? Students at the Renmin University of China can collect their packages from lockers at their campus at any time.

Two sets of cabinets containing more than 100 lockers have recently appeared in an area between two buildings on the campus in Beijing. Students who were unable to pick up their parcels when they were delivered can collect them from the lockers when they are ready. Detailed information, including the lockers number and code, will be sent to them via text message.

A staff member said they will keep the parcel after receiving approval from the students.

The system is being piloted in the university and only open to parcels delivered by Shanghai YTO Express (Logistics) Co, Ltd. They will decide whether to expand it to other places based on the success of the pilot.

In China, the boom in online shopping has led to a boom for the express delivery industry. Many companies find it is difficult to deliver the increasingly large number of parcels partly because the couriers may spend a long time waiting for people collect their packages.
