TAIPEI, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou was re-elected as chairman of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) in an uncontested election on Saturday.

About 57.86 percent of the voters turned out in the election and Ma won 202,750 valid votes, or nearly 92 percent of the votes, according to the KMT Central Committee.

Ma told reporters after the election that he would push for reform in his party during his tenure as KMT chairman and cultivate Party candidates in preparation for the next election of the island's leadership.

The result of the election will be formally announced on July 22.

Ma is the incumbent Taiwan leader and chairman of the KMT.

He was elected party chairman twice, in 2005 and 2009.
