NANNING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Chen Wu was appointed acting chairman of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Thursday.
The appointment was made at a meeting of the standing committee of the regional people's congress, the local legislative body.
The resignation of former chairman Ma Biao was also approved at the meeting.
Chen, born in November 1954, is a member of the Zhuang ethnic minority. He has served as deputy chairman of Guangxi and Party secretary of Nanning, the regional capital.
Chen was also appointed deputy secretary of Guangxi's regional committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) earlier this month.
In mid-March, Ma Biao was elected vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top political advisory body.
