The Shanghai Animation Film Studio says it will begin production on 10 movies this year. Several of them will bring some of China's most famous cartoon characters back to the big screen.
Film makers told a press conference today that the new productions are one of their steps to breathe new life into the 56-year-old studio. Starting this year, the studio will remake six classic animated films, including "The Monkey King" and "Sheriff Black Cat", as well as "Tales of Avanti", which will be made with puppets. "Sheriff Black Cat" should be the first of those movies to arrive on the big screen sometime next year.
Yao Guanghua, director of "Sheriff Black Cat", said, The new edition will feature an adventure story. The film will also show the study and life of children in the future.
In addition to the six remakes, the studio's manager says they also plan to produce four new animated movies.
Qian Jianping, president of Shanghai Animation Film Studio, said, "We insist on producing original movies. We believe this is one of the most important works in our business chain."
Shanghai Animation Film Studio is the largest cartoon movie producer in China.
