CHINA'S major industrial fair opened yesterday, highlighting energy-efficient and automation products as exhibitors seek to cash in on the nation's industrial upgrade.
"China is at an important phase of its economic restructuring and energy efficiency is a key strategy for achieving industrial upgrade," said Gu Chunyuan, head of automation business for ABB North Asia and China, at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai.
ABB and other automation companies have been supplying devices and services, such as robots, for Chinese manufacturers to reduce labor costs and allow machines to do work with less energy, faster times and fewer mistakes.
China has become the world's fastest growing robotics market. Installation of multi-role robots in the nation has risen by 136 percent from 2008 to 2011 and will grow another 15 percent this year, according to the International Federation of Robotics.
But China is still far behind other markets in robotic density. At less than half the global average, there is great growth potential, Gu said.
