The Construction of the Pu'er Green Economy Experiment and Demonstration Zone was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently, and Pu'er City would work hard to develop into a national green economy experiment and demonstration zone and make exploration for ecological civilization construction in Central and Western China and for development of low-carbon economy, disclosed by Qian Weide, Mayor of Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, on July 17, 2013.

Situated in the south of Yunnan Province, Pu'er City enjoys a superior ecological environment and abundant resources with its forest coverage approaching 70 percent, the excellent rate of its air quality remaining at 100 percent and 1/3 species nationwide living here.

According to Qian Dewei, Pu'er will push forward the practices of national green economy experiment and demonstration zone construction as a forerunner, by taking the lead in optimizing the land space development pattern, carrying out green transformation of stock-oriented economy, reinforcing incremental building of green economy, strengthening exploration practices in ecological construction and environmental protection and developing four industrial bases for characteristic biology, clean energy, forestry and leisure vacation respectively. It aims to become a pacesetter for national ecological civilization construction, a pioneer in transformation of the economic development mode and a model for prosperous development of less developed areas where frontier minorities live within five to ten years' efforts.
