Pu'er tea industry: Heritage over time and development in cross-regions

2013 International Tea Convention, 8th Yunnan (China) International Pu'er Tea Expo and 13th China Pu'er Tea Festival was held from May 25th to 27th, 2013 in Pu'er, drawing the world's attention to the city named after a kind of tea and to the green industry sharing the same name with the city once again. With years' development and practice, Pu'er tea has been realizing cross-regional development drawing on its profound deposits over time and representing double brands which have been enjoying a long history and increasingly widespread reputation.

Pu'er is an "Ancient Tea Tree Expo Park" with a complete variety of tea trees and an important treasure for China and even the world's tea tree resources. The long history of Pu'er tea is supported by many pieces of "evidences". In Pu'er live the Jinggu wide-leaf magnolia fossil that can be traced back to 35.4 million years ago, the Zhenyuan Qianjiazhai 2,700-year old wild ancient tea tree community with the longest history and the largest scale in the world, the Lancang Bangwei transitional ancient tea tree of more than 1,000 years old and sole in this regard in the world, and the cultivated ancient tea tree forest at Mangjing on Jingmai Mountain of Lancang County, of over 1,000 years old and with an area of more than 10,000 mu - a large-scale and well-preserved cultivated ancient tea plantation with a long history.

In 2012, the total area of wild tea tree communities in Pu'er reached 1.2 million mu, including 182,000 mu of cultivated ancient tea plantation and 1.5 million mu of ecological tea plantation, which represents a total output of 79,000 tons and a gross output value of 6 billion yuan.

In Yunnan Province, Pu'er tea with an ancient origin is the most characteristic and well-known traditional tea, which has been inheriting the profound history, keeping achieving its modernization and realizing the great leapfrog development of standardized Pu'er, scientific Pu'er and regimen Pu'er at the same time.
