Logistics: Connecting the world and ensuring smooth inflows and outflows

China-Europe freight train service hits 100,000 trips.

On Nov. 15, 2024 at 10:20 AM, with the departure of the X8083 China-Europe Railway Express (Chongqing to Duisburg, Germany) from the Chongqing Tuanjiecun station, the cumulative number of China-Europe Railway Express train trips has exceeded 100,000, transporting over 11 million TEUs and goods valued at more than $420 billion.

With the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, the China-Europe Railway Express emerged. In 2016, it achieved a unified brand. From 2016 to 2023, the annual number of trains increased from 1,702 to over 17,000, nearly a tenfold growth. The time required to run 10,000 trains decreased from 90 months to six months. Since March 2024, the monthly number of trains has exceeded 1,600 for eight consecutive months.

The China-Europe Railway Express now covers the entire Eurasian region. Domestically, 93 routes are operational at speeds of 120 kilometers per hour, connecting 125 cities. At the borders, six major ports—Alashankou, Khorgos, Erenhot, Manzhouli, Suifenhe, and Tongjiang North—maintain a steady growth in the number of trains. Internationally, the service reaches 227 cities in 25 European countries and over 100 cities in 11 Asian countries.
