An expert team has discovered more dinosaur footprints in Guihua township in Luzhou, southwestern China's Sichuan province recently. Following the discovery of over 500 footprints in the two previous explorations in Guihua township, over 70 new footprints were discovered again. One of the footprints is 60 centimeters in diameter and 20 centimeters thick.
Xing Lida, a doctoral student of China University of Geosciences, has been to Guihua township for three times. The new discoveries include footprints of sauropod dinosaurs, ornithopod dinosaurs and theropod dinosaurs, said Xing.
Careful observation of these footprints shows that about 100 million years ago, large groups of herbivorous dinosaurs and middle and small sized carnivorous dinosaurs lived there. It is worth mentioning that a giant footprint which is 60 centimeters in diameter and 20 centimeters thick was found. The giant footprint is an important discovery that has shocked the experts.
"Currently, we haven't found out which kind of dinosaur left the footprint. It should be a giant dinosaur. The experts will further identify it," Xing said.
