Recently, a man named Wen Feng found hundreds of fairy shrimps in a puddle of an abandoned building site in Chengdu city, southwest China's Sichuan province.
According to experts, these creatures with light green body, black and round eyes and beautiful swimming style are fairy shrimps, which have the history of more than 200 million years. This discovery is the third time that fairy shrimps have ever recorded in Sichuan province.
Wen Feng is an engineer working at a building site in Wuhou District of Chengdu city. He likes breeding fishes and animals. One day, he found the beautiful creatures when he went to pick up some water shields in the puddle. Hundreds of fairy shrimps swam in the water and Wen took several photos of them.
On the next day, Zhao Li, the curator of Chengdu Huaxi Insect Museum, came to the site and did some researches. "These are fairy shrimps, a kind of ancient species contemporary with dinosaurs. Fairy shrimps may left spawn in the soil. With their favorite food such as plankton, aquatic plants and saprophagous organisms, it is no wonder that this place is the perfect environment for fairy shrimps' growth, especially when there are no their natural enemy-carnivores," said Zhao Li.
