Xia Boyu was born in 1951 in southwest China's Chongqing city. He moved to northwest China's Qinghai province with his parents and started a new life there at the age of 5. Because of running fast, he was selected to the football team of local sports school. Xia loved playing football and cherished his feet very much.

In 1974, Chinese mountaineering team went to Qinghai and selected the team members of climbing the Qomolangma for the next year. Xia joined the national team after strict medical check-ups and tough training.

Xia firstly climbed the Mount Qomolangma in 1975. When reached at the height of 8600 meters, there was a sudden change in the weather and a heavy snowstorm. The team of ten members came down to the camp at the altitude of 7600 meters. He gave the sleeping bag to his teammate who had lost it when he saw the man crouching in the corner of the tent. And then he fell into sleep without taking off boots. In the next day, his feet could not be rewarmed and he had to accept the amputation surgery.

With the help of artificial limbs, he recollected the dream of climbing the Mount Qomolangma.

Xia starts the training in 5:00 a.m. every morning. And then he walks fastly in the garden and climbs the Fragrant Hill for several times one day. "Many people question that why me, the person who lost feet, insist on climbing the Mount Qomolangma all the time. While I know that it attracts me and I will never give up my 40 years dream,"said Xia.
