BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Matters involving the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) will hopefully be handled with humanitarian spirit, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said here on Wednesday.
Hua made the comment while answering a question about the CPV.
During her visit to China, President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-hye offered on Saturday to return hundreds of sets of remains of the CPV to China, according to media reports.
The CPV were involved in the Korean War as they tried to help the people of Democratic People's Republic of Korea resist U.S. aggression on Oct. 25, 1950, about four months after the conflict broke out. Tens of thousands of CPV soldiers died during the war that ended in 1953.
The volunteers are "excellent sons and daughters of the Chinese people," Hua told a regular press briefing.
