MALE, July 1 (ChinaMil) -- The "Peace Ark" hospital ship of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) arrived at Male, capital of Maldives, on June 29, 2013, and started its six-day-long goodwill visit to Maldives and humanitarian medical service to local people.
This is the first time for a Chinese naval ship to visit Maldives and also the first time for the Chinese medical team to go to Maldives to offer humanitarian medical service since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Maldives in 1972.
Situated in the northern Indian Ocean and boasting the world's largest coral island country with a population of 320,000, Maldives is the second stop of the "Harmonious Mission 2013".
According to the characteristics of Maldives, namely, having numerous islands, the "Peace Ark" hospital ship will dispatch ten mobile medical sub-teams to make medical tour to eight islands in southern, central and northern parts of Maldives by ship-borne helicopter, local inland aircraft and speedboats while offering extensive medical service on the main platform of the hospital ship.
Meanwhile, the "Peace Ark" hospital ship will also train medical workers for Maldives, perform operations jointly with local medical workers, and dispatch medical sub-teams to local orphanages, nursing homes and elementary schools to make diagnosis, give treatment and make donation.
