Singapore's deputy PM to visit China

SINGAPORE, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance and Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Tharman Shanmugaratnam is scheduled to visit China 's Beijing and Shanghai from Tuesday to next Monday, the city- state's Ministry of Finance said on Monday.

During his visit, Tharman will meet with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli in Beijing. Meanwhile, Tharman, together with his Chinese counterpart Zhou Xiaochuan, governor of People's Bank of China, will officiate at the opening of the MAS Representative Office.

Besides, he is also scheduled to meet Lou Jiwei, China's finance minister, Xiao Gang, chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission, as well as Wang Enge, president of Peking University.

On Wednesday, The deputy prime minister will attend the opening of the second China International Fair for Trade in Services held in Beijing.

During his stay in Shanghai, Tharman will visit the China Executive Leadership Academy in Pudong.

"He will also participate in two international meetings including the Group of Thirty (also known as the Consultative Group on International Economic and Monetary Affairs) plenary, and the International Monetary Conference, a conference for senior financial sector leaders," the ministry said in a statement.
