To deepen bilateral cooperation
In addition to promoting the Palestinian-Israeli talks, consolidating and deepening the bilateral ties between China and Palestine and China and Israel are the major goals.
Abbas is the first leader in Middle East region that Chinese new leadership invited to visit China. Before his China visit, he had asked Chinese leaders to remove obstacles that impede Palestinian economy through the China-Israel relations.
Palestinian economic development is severely constrained by Israel because the international commitments to aid Palestine have not been fulfilled. Palestine hopes to strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote Chinese investment in Palestine to ease the plight of its economy. During this visit, the two sides signed agreements on economic and technological cooperation as well as documents on cultural and educational cooperation.
"We hope the visit serves to upgrade the level of cooperation between the two countries," Netanyahu's spokesman Mark Regev told AFP. "China and Israel have both much to gain from enhanced cooperation, and that's our goal."
Netanyahu will spend the first two days of his visit in Shanghai, where he will focus on economic and trade issues, before heading to Beijing for meetings with the Chinese leadership, according to AFP.
Cooperation between China and Israel is complemented. Israel has a unique attainment in the fields including renewable energy, desalination of seawater, communication, medical equipment and agriculture. While Israel badly needs Chinese enterprises and capital. So there is reason to believe that Netanyahu's trip to China will push the economic and trade ties between the two countries to a higher level.
