BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The spokeswoman for China's Foreign Ministry on Thursday reaffirmed the country's support for the Middle East peace process ahead of Palestinian and Israeli leaders' visits to Beijing.
"China's reception of Palestinian and Israeli leaders' visits is part of the country's efforts to support the Middle East peace process and both sides' efforts to resolve differences and disputes through peace talks," Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will pay a state visit to China from May 5 to 7 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will pay an official visit to China as a guest of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang from May 6 to 10.
"Palestinian issue is at the core of Middle East issues," Hua said,stressing China has for a long time advocated negotiations and made efforts to promote peace in the Middle East.
"Under the current situation, China would like to work with the international community to play an active and constructive role in seeking the comprehensive and fair settlement of the Palestinian issue," the spokeswoman added.
