Data from the World Bank shows 68 percent of Chinese female population aged above 15 work, while the figure is 58 percent in the U.S., 51 percent in France and 53 percent in Germany. Among millions of migrant workers who come from countryside to cities, one third of them are women. According to an academic paper published in 2010, women earn about two-thirds less than men doing the same work.
