A migrant worker has been arrested for allegedly imprisoning a girl for 11 days in a cellar and raping her in east China's Zhejiang Province, local police said on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old man, surnamed Chen, secretly dug a cellar himself in his rented house in a village in Jiaxing City earlier this year, said police in Jiaxing.
On the night of June 22, he disguised himself as a private passenger carrier and took an 18-year-old girl surnamed Guo on his electric tricycle from a karaoke bar in Jiaxing to a nearby corner, where he robbed her.
After taking away Guo's mobile phone, Chen forced her into the cellar of his rented house and locked her up with chains. Then he repeatedly raped the girl, a native of eastern Anhui Province.
Guo ground the chains with her nail-clippers every day and finally broke them on July 23. She immediately rushed to the window and shouted for help.
She was heard by neighbors, who then reported to police. On the afternoon of the same day, police arrested Chen, who is a native of central China's Henan Province.
Chen's cellar was three meters long, one meter wide and 1.5 meters high with an electric lamp and a fan inside. The walls were covered with concrete.
Chen confessed to police that he was affected by online novels. He faces charges of robbery and rape.
