The following is a chronology of earthquakes above 6.0 -magnitudes that occurred in China since 2001:
On Nov. 14, 2001, an 8.1-magnitude quake struck Kunlun Mountains in northwestern China's Qinghai province, no casualty reported.
On Feb. 24, 2003, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Bachu areas in Jiashi, northwestern China's Xinjiang, killing 268 people, leaving 2000 injured.
On May 12, 2008, an 8-magnitude earthquake hit Wenchuan county in southwestern China's Sichuan province, killing nearly 70,000 and leaving some 18,000 missing.
On April 14, 2010, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu, northwest China's Qinghai Province and killed 2, 698 people.
On April 20, 2013, Lushan County in Ya’an city of southwest China’s Sichuan province was rocked by a 7.0- magnitude earthquake, which claimed 196 lives and left 21 people missing.
On July 22, 2013, a 6.6-magnitude quake jolted a juncture region of two counties in Dingxi city of northwest China's Gansu. As of 3 p.m., the quake in Gansu has killed 56 people, leaving 412 injured and 14 missing.
