GUANGZHOU, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- A police official in south China's Guangdong Province was confirmed to have used a fake identity card to do businesses, said sources late Monday.
Police in Zhuhai City have revoked the fake ID and household registration, or hukou in Chinese, of Zhao Haibin, member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) committee of Lufeng City's Public Security Bureau, said Yu Chiru, secretary of the discipline inspection commission of the Shanwei City Public Security Bureau. Lufeng is under the administration of Shanwei.
Investigations confirmed Zhao, also holding the post of deputy Party chief of Jieshi Town in Lufeng, had double IDs. The real ID was registered in Donghai Town, Lufeng City, the other in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City in the name of Zhao Yong.
Yu told Xinhua said Zhao's other problems, such as his ownership of excessive properties exposed on the Internet by whistle-blowers, would be further investigated by relevant departments.
In a special crackdown on commercial bribery, the Shanwei public security bureau had received documents about Zhao's double IDs from whistle-blowers in 2012, according to Yu.
In a telephone interview with Xinhua, Zhao explained he had applied for a second ID in the early 1990s in order to do business and cooperated with his brother to invest in several property projects.
"A police official openly had two IDs and used the other one to do business and cheat others. Why nobody probes the case?" said Huang Kunyi, a local businessman. He claimed Zhao had properties in Lufeng, Zhuhai and Huizhou cities in Guangdong.
Netizen "Jieshiren" alleged Zhao made use of his fake ID for taking bribes and investing in real estate development projects.
Some netizens said Zhao's case cannot end with the cancellation of his fake ID and that a thorough probe should be conducted.
Hukou is a Chinese permanent residence registration and personal identification system governed by public security departments. In China, one individual only has one legitimate identity and hukou record.
In one of the latest related cases, seven people, including four former police officers, were detained after being implicated in the scandal of the "house sister," a woman alleged to have illegally amassed 41 units of house property using multiple identities.
Investigations found Gong Ai'ai, a resident in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, has at least two identities and hukou, Chinese household registration records.
