Police take suspected murderer into custody

Shanghai police have taken into custody an Anhui Province man who allegedly strangled his lover and disposed of her dismembered body in two public bathrooms in Pudong New Area, local media reported Sunday.

The suspect, surnamed Huang, had been having an affair since September with the victim, a woman in her 40s surnamed Yan, according to a report in Youth Daily. The two met at the factory where Huang drove a forklift and Yan worked as a cleaner.

On October 23, Huang strangled Yan following an argument that stemmed from his concerns that their affair might be exposed. Two days later, a farmer looking to gather human waste for fertilizer found part of Yan's body buried in the septic tank of a public bathroom.

Local police investigated other public bathrooms in the area and found body parts stashed at one other. Forensic tests determined that the body parts all belonged to Yan.

Huang fled to his hometown of Suzhou, Anhui Province, after the murder. He left his family a note that admitted he killed someone and didn't want to live anymore.

He then tried to commit suicide at his mother's grave. His family stopped him before he could finish the act and sent him to a local hospital. Later, he surrendered to police.

Shanghai police returned Huang to the city in an ambulance on October 30. He is currently in stable condition.
