A woman drove her car into a river Sunday morning in Jiading district after starting the vehicle in gear.
The driver escaped the vehicle unharmed with the help of a nearby hotel employee. The car's hood was submerged in the water while the rear-end remained hanging over the levee. The driver said someone else had parked the car for her so it was in-gear when she started the engine.
Police reminded drivers to check the gear before starting up their vehicles.
