BEIJING, November 6 (ChinaMil) -- The 16th round of strategic consultation between the general staff headquarters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was held on the afternoon of November 5, 2013 in Beijing.
Lt. Gen. Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese PLA, and his Russian counterpart Gen. Vladimir Zarudnitskiy co-chaired the consultation.
The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad consensus on such issues as military-to-military cooperation, current international and regional security situations, and regional hotspot issues.
Wang Guanzhong said that in recent years, the pragmatic cooperation between the Chinese and Russian militaries in such fields as high-level reciprocal visits, joint exercises and professional exchanges has always been maintaining a momentum of healthy and stable development, as evidenced by fruitful results. The military exercises jointly held and participated in by the two militaries have deepened mutual strategic trust between the two countries, enhanced mutual friendship and improved the capability for jointly responding to new threats and new challenges.
The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Russian side to constantly tap cooperation potential and expand cooperation areas, so as to further develop bilateral military relations under the new situation and make new contributions to the development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.
Zarudnitskiy said that the pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two militaries is fruitful, and the consensus achieved by the two sides in a friendly, candid and close atmosphere will further strengthen the friendship between the two countries and promote the cooperation between the two militaries.
Guan Youfei, director-general of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense of the People's Republic of China, was present at the consultation.
