The 55th and the 56th groups of specially-invited members from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) attending the First Session of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a joint panel discussion on the afternoon of March 6, 2013. Xu Qiliang, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the CPC, visited the specially-invited CPPCC members from the PLA and participated in the joint panel discussion.
Du Qinglin, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and executive chairman and secretary general of the Presidium of the First Session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, also took part in the joint panel discussion.
During the joint panel discussion, the CPPCC members expressed that the report on the work of the government delivered by Wen Jiabao, premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a good report that reflects common aspiration of the people of all ethnic groups, unites various forces and promotes scientific development. CPPCC members Huang Zuoxing, Huang Jiaxiang, Fang Dianrong, Ren Haiquan, Li Shaojun and Guo Hongchao delivered key speeches on accelerating the military-civilian integrated development of weaponry and equipment, reforming the reserve officer system of the military, promoting the reform in military service work, resolving the South China Sea issue and strengthening the guidance on military strategies, etc.
Afterwards, Xu Qiliang gave a speech. He pointed out that the year 2013 is of crucial importance for the development of the CPC, the country and its armed forces, and the PLA should constantly expand and deepen military struggle preparation, be strict with itself and build itself into a people's army that follows the Party's command, has the ability to win battles and has a fine work style, and resolutely complete various tasks entrusted by the Party and the people.
