In response to the report on Chinese naval ships sailing through the nearby waters of the Yonaguni Island and the Iriomote Island made by Japanese media on December 10, 2012, an officer of the Information Office under the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) expressed that the open sea training in the West Pacific Ocean of the naval taskforce of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was conducted as planned and was consistent with related international law and international practice.
The Chinese side released related information before the training, which reflects the openness and transparency of the Chinese military.
The officer of the MND Information Office also expressed that every country has the right to enjoy the freedom of navigation through related waters of the West Pacific Ocean, and the Chinese side will continue to carry out open sea training in the waters of the West Pacific Ocean and hopes that countries concerned respect the freedom of the Chinese naval ships and their shipboard aircraft to navigate through and fly over the ocean in accordance with international law.
