JINAN, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Guo Shuqing was appointed acting governor of east China's Shandong Province on Friday.

The appointment was made at the first meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th Shandong Provincial People's Congress, the local legislative body.

Guo, 57, served as chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission for one and a half years before being appointed vice secretary of the Shandong provincial committee of the Communist Party of China in mid-March.

Guo, a native of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, earlier served as chairman of the China Construction Bank between March 2005 and October 2011.

The meeting also approved the resignation of former governor Jiang Daming, who now serves as the minister of land and resources.
