SHANGHAI, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Yang Xiong was appointed as acting mayor of Shanghai on Wednesday.
The appointment was made at the 38th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th Shanghai Municipal People's Congress.
The session also accepted the resignation of Han Zheng as mayor of Shanghai, as he was named secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shanghai Municipal Committee by the CPC Central Committee last month.
Yang, 59, was appointed vice mayor of Shanghai in 2003.
