ART is no longer the exclusive preserve of the elite. The Asian art world is booming, and more consumers are buying contemporary art that is accessible and affordable.
To encourage more people to appreciate and buy art, Wheelock Square and APPortfolio are staging a one-month mobile art exhibition entitled "Mobile Art of APPortfolio."
The exhibition in the lobby of Wheelock Square features 28 works of young, upcoming Asian artists.
The theme of the exhibition is "an unexpected meeting with art at every corner of the city." The public can get up close to the works, including oils, watercolors and photographs, according to Keith Wong, president of APPortfolio,
Chinese artists exhibiting works include Bai Hua, Zhu Yan, Guo Jieyu and Huang Wei. The works are affordable reproductions, which can be bought on-site.
Photographer Bai shows four photographs from his "Observable Imagination" series, featuring scenes in New York City.
Feng Shiheng, a 27-year-old female artist from Guangdong Province, exhibits a poetic oil painting of snow-covered Changbai Mountain in China's northeastern Jilin Province. Feng says she was inspired by the purity of heavy snow.
Three paintings by Hong Kong artist Michelle Chan depict confusion, pressure and stress in modern life.
