BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued a certification for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Thursday, a milestone for the 787 to begin commercial service in China.

The CAAC presented Boeing with a Validation of Type Certification (VTC), indicating that the design of the 787 Dreamliner is compliant with China's aviation regulations and that China endorses the original type certificate issued by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on August 26, 2011.

Boeing China's president announced in May that China Southern Airlines Co., Ltd. and Hainan Airlines Co., Ltd., will be the first Chinese airlines to obtain 787 Dreamliners before June.

Four Chinese airlines had ordered 41 Dreamliners by the end of 2012. Another 58 global customers are currently waiting for more than 800 Dreamliners, according to Boeing.

All 50 Dreamliners currently in operation were grounded in January after two incidents on Japanese jetliners involving overheating batteries.
