BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- A customs authority spokesman has apologized for remarks regarding the approval of investment projects worth 7 trillion yuan (1.1 trillion U.S. dollars) at a press conference on Wednesday.
In a statement posted on the General Administration of Customs (GAC)'s website Thursday, spokesman Zheng Yuesheng said it was found that the information on the investment projects came from online reports, saying "it is groundless and must be corrected."
He said he was "deeply sorry" for any confusion that was caused among the media and public due to his error.
The official said at a Wednesday press conference that the National Development and Reform Commission had approved infrastructure construction projects worth 7 trillion yuan in the fourth quarter of last year.
The projects are related to the construction of track transport, roads and airports, Zheng said at the press conference.
"We will continue to improve our work and provide quality statistical services for all walks of society," said Zheng, who is also director of the Department of Comprehensive Statistics under the GAC.
