HOUSTON, July 22 (Xinhua) -- A bicyclist was hit and killed by a Metro train while she was crossing the railroad tracks in the U. S. city of Houston Monday, local media reported.
The woman died at the scene in downtown Houston Monday morning, Metro spokesman Jerome Gray told the Houston Chronicle, without giving her name.
Gray said the woman, who is believed to be a college student, was riding across the tracks near a pedestrian crosswalk when the train collided with her. The train operator, Gray added, was blowing the horn.
Gray said investigators will speak with witnesses, review video from the train platform and gather other information about the incident. He did not release the name of college where the woman is thought to have been a student.
Streets in the nearby area were temporarily blocked to traffic as police investigated the case. Metro service was also temporarily halted between two nearby stations.
