KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Several Malaysian Islamic groups and parties held a rally here Tuesday to protest against the overthrow of former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi by the military.
Several hundred participants, many holding portraits of Morsi, handed over a letter to the Egyptian embassy in Kuala Lumpur, in which they "condemns the military coup" in Egypt.
The groups, comprising of Non-government Organizations and the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party and People's Justice Party (PKR), urged the Egyptian army to "cease all forms of cruelty and murder on the Egyptian people immediately" as well as return the power to Morsi, among others.
Members from both Malaysia's political spectrums have voiced their concerns and opposition since the Egyptian military announced the step-down of the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.
