S. Korea proposes working-level talks with DPRK to discuss Kaesong issue

SEOUL, July 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's Unification Ministry said Thursday that it has proposed working-level talks with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to discuss the normalization of the suspended industrial zone at the border city of Kaesong.

Unification Ministry Spokesman Kim Hyung-seok told reporters at a briefing that the South Korean government conveyed the notice of working-level dialogue offer this morning through the liaison office at the truce village of Panmunjeom.

Seoul proposed to Pyongyang for holding such talks this Saturday at Panmujeom to discuss the normalization of the Kaesong industrial zone.

Work at the inter-Korean factory complex came to a halt on April 9, when the DPRK ordered its 53,000 laborers hired by 123 South Korean companies not to report for work, citing provocation from the South. In response, South Korea pulled the last of its personnel from the complex on May 3.
