HANOI, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang met Myanmar's Vice President Nyan Tun here on Wednesday and the two leaders pledged to boost bilateral ties to a new height.
Sang spoke highly of outcome of talks between Nyan Tun and his Vietnamese counterpart, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan earlier Wednesday, saying that agreements reached by the two sides would contribute to developing the two countries' traditional friendly relations and all-sided cooperation.
Nyan Tun said that Myanmar is focusing on national economic development and attaches importance to foreign direct investment.
He said Myanmar would speed up implementation of agreements signed by leaders of the two countries, especially the joint statement on cooperation in 12 areas of priority.
Vietnam will support Myanmar to undertake the rotating ASEAN presidency in 2014, Sang said.
Nyan Tun is on his first visit to Vietnam since he became Myanmar's Vice President in August 2012.
As of February 2013, there are 30 countries investing in Myanmar with a total of over 40 billion U.S. dollars. Vietnam ranks 9th with 370 million dollars, accounting for only 1 percent of the foreign direct investment in Myanmar.
Vietnam and Myanmar set a target for a two-way trade of 500 million U.S. dollars by 2015.
