TEHRAN, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian commander said that the nuclear facilities of the Islamic republic are impervious to any potential attack by the United State or Israel, Press TV reported on Tuesday.
"Today, we have achieved the defense capability to make vital infrastructure, especially nuclear installations, completely impenetrable," Deputy Commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base General Shahrokh Shahram was quoted as saying on Monday.
Iran has tested the impenetrability of its nuclear sites with various weapons and tactics in different military drills, said Shahram, adding that it can now be assured that the country has reached the capability to defend its sensitive sites with an indigenous defense system in the best possible way.
The West and Israel suspect that the Iranian nuclear program, which the officials of the Islamic republic insists is "peaceful," may have military dimensions.
The United States and Israel have not ruled out the possibility of striking Iran's nuclear facilities. The Islamic republic has threatened that it will retaliate if its nuclear establishments are hit.
