NEW DELHI, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A fast track court in New Delhi on Wednesday sentenced a farmhouse guard to death for raping and killing a three-year-old girl in 2011.
After being set up on Jan. 5, the court completed the case within days. This was the first sentence handed out by any of the fast-track courts set up in the capital after the Nirbhaya gangrape.
The nation was shocked by the gangrape in which Nirbhaya, a 23- year-old medical medical student, was brutalized by six thugs on a moving bus in south Delhi in mid-December and later died at a Singapore hospital due to inner injuries.
According to the prosecution, the child was playing on April 10, 2011 outside her house on the outskirts of Delhi when she lost her way home and strayed towards the farmhouse.
Bharat Singh, a guard over fifty years old in the farmhouse, called the girl inside and raped her before killing her.
Her body was recovered two days afterwards in the farmhouse premises. After this, a case of rape and murder was registered and sent for trial.
