In dealing with foreign relations, South Korean president-elect Park Geun-hye must find a new way of thinking to stabilize the situation in Northeast Asia to make a difference.
Currently, the DPRK-ROK relations have come to a deadlock, the ROK-Japan relationship sees the influence of territorial and historical issues and the situation in Northeast Asia is also in a highly sensitive period. But the ROK-China relationship is relatively positive after Park Geun-hye takes office. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and South Korea 20 years ago, the bilateral relations have made significant progress. Therefore, the new South Korean president must further deepen relations with China to boost the domestic economy and tap new growth potential.
Active trade and economic relations are conducive to cultural and people-to-people exchanges, but the relationship between countries cannot be one-dimensional and more problems will appear since it becomes closer and closer. In recent years, the two peoples of China and South Korea have different views on some problems and they do not always have a good opinion of each other, which is caused not only by accidental events but also related to the security pattern of Northeast Asia.
The public awareness of the two peoples is easily influenced by the situation in the Korean Peninsula. China is willing to show an understanding to South Korea' ambitious diplomatic ideas and specific concerns, while South Korea also needs to know about China's foreign policy on its neighboring countries and the influence as a responsible power. China always plays a key role in injecting positive energy into the Korean Peninsula every time a major turbulence occurs.
