1: Wang Feng, Zhang Ziyi announce their relationship

Veteran rocker Wang Feng and international movie star Zhang Ziyi are one of the most unlikely couple-combos, yet the two paired up after each had parted ways with their former lover.

The news that the two were secretly in love, caused nothing short of a sensation. When the rumors of Zhang and Wang dating first surfaced, the latter had only just divorced his wife and Zhang had recently broken up with her then boyfriend, television host Sa Beining. Both Wang and Zhang were subjected to a public backlash since both were infamous for their tumultuous past love affairs.

After weeks of media speculation, yet complete silence from both involved parties, Wang eventually gave in and shockingly so gave an 8-minute-long heartfelt declaration of love to Zhang before tens of thousands of fans on Nov. 9, during a concert where the actress was spotted sitting in the front row.

"I want to make you the happiest woman in the world," Wang said, "and I imagine one day we can be blessed for our sincere love as celebrities, without being criticized and vilified by people. I imagine one day we can tell each other 'I love you' without [seeing the] tears in each other's eyes."

Nevertheless, the entertainment value of this relationship did not end there. It continued on to become one of the most hilarious celeb events of the year.

This string of coincidences left the impression that no matter how hard Wang tried, he always missed out on that one chance to grab the headlines. Netizens then even launched the hilarious "Help Wang Fang Get a Headline" campaign, poking fun, making ironic comments and posting made-up stories, turning it into one of the hottest topics of 2013.
