Rooftop villas” were also found in Nanjing, east China’s Jiangsu province. A local newspaper exposed an illegal rooftop complex that covers nearly 1, 000 square meters. It was ruled illegal and asked to be demolished by Nanjing’s urban planning authorities two years ago, but two of the complex owners turned a blind eye.

A bizarre rooftop villa in Beijing receives great publicity these days. Surrounded by rockeries and plants, this illegal construction looks like a giant bonsai on the top of a 26-storey high-rise.
