A news reporter assumed that the market value of the four villas, with area of 500 square meters each, may be 10 million yuan (about 163,500 U.S. dollars). The developer explained the houses are office building, not villa. The local urban planning authorities in 2012 declared that the rooftop buildings had gained their approval.

A bizarre rooftop villa in Beijing receives great publicity these days. Surrounded by rockeries and plants, this illegal construction looks like a giant bonsai on the top of a 26-storey high-rise.
