CHELYABINSK, August 2 (ChinaMil) -- All the army aviation echelons of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) participating in the "Peace Mission - 2013" China-Russia joint anti-terrorism military exercise arrived at the exercise area at 12:10, local time, on August 1, 2013. This is the first batch of participating troops from Chinese side to arrive at the exercise area.
The Chinese army aviation echelons participating in the joint exercise are composed of 4 Zhi-9 (Z-9) armed helicopters and 2 Mi-171 transport helicopters from an army aviation regiment under the 39th Group Army of the PLA. During the course of air delivery to the exercise area, they made a total of 8 transitions and 4,198 kilometers of offshore flight.
Prior to this, the directing department and campaign headquarters of the Chinese side arrived at the Shagol Airport in Russia on the early morning of August 1, Beijing time, and immediately moved into the Chebarkul combined training range of Russia's Central Military Area Command to start their preparatory work.
At the Shagol Airport, Maj. Gen. Sergei Chuvakin, deputy chief of staff of Russia's Central Military Area Command, and Shi Xiangyuan, chief director of Chinese side and deputy commander of the PLA Shenyang MAC, received interviews by reporters together.
Chuvakin said that: "Having held a maritime joint military exercise not so long ago, Russia and China are now holding a joint anti-terrorism exercise. The two exercises have demonstrated the high level of cooperation between China and Russia."
Shi Xiangyuan expressed that: "The maritime exercise and the land exercise are like a pair of fists. The Russian side has been fully prepared for this exercise. The two militaries have enjoyed a traditional friendship. It is believed that the exercise mission will be a pleasing cooperation and will be fulfilled successfully."
It is learned that 5 JH-7A aircraft of the Chinese Air Force have already arrived at the Tolmachevo Airport in Russia on the afternoon of July 31, and then headed to the Shagol Airport to participate in the exercise. 3 railway-transported echelons from the Chinese side will successively arrive at the area of Chebarkul combined training range in the next couple of days.
