Top political advisor urges developing multi-party cooperation system (2)

BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng has called for improving and developing multi-party cooperation in accordance with contemporary conditions.

Yu made the remarks Saturday while presiding over a symposium commemorating the 65th anniversary of a call made by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on April 30, 1948 in which it called on non-communist parties, as well as people without party affiliation, to convene a political consultative conference and found a democratic coalition government.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the call received ardent responses indicating that they willingly accepted the CPC's leadership. He said the call opened a new chapter in the country's development of democratic politics and the building of political party system.

Yu called on non-communist parties to boost their ability to participate in state affairs and take full advantage of democratic supervision to contribute to the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
